About the Author
Reverend Jerry D. Black is the pastor of the
10,000-member Beulah Missionary Baptist Church in Decatur, Georgia. A native of Arkansas, he holds a Bachelor’s
and Master’s degree in History. He accepted his ministry calling at the age of 21 while still in
college. He went on to serve as pastor of the Greater Paradise Baptist Church in Little Rock, Arkansas
for 15 years before beginning his pastorate at Beulah in 1991.
Pastor Black is a powerful, uncompromising preacher
of the Gospel affectionately known as the “Arkansas Tornado” for his dynamic preaching style. He
is a highly sought after revivalist who has preached across this nation and abroad. In his sermons, Reverend
Black often encourages the congregation to use their “spiritual imaginations” in visualizing biblical events.
His work has been featured in various print media including
“The African American Pulpit”, a quarterly journal which features the very best of African-American preaching.
He also has a very successful television ministry in the Atlanta area.
Pastor Black has been the recipient of many awards and accolades including
the 2001 “Chosen Award” from the Atlanta Gospel Choice Awards. He was honored by the State
of Georgia as “One of Georgia’s Best Loved Preachers.” In 2005, Pastor Black was also
named one of the “World’s Most Loved Pastors” by GospelToday Magazine.
Pastor Black has been married for over 30 years to his wife, Glenda J. Black, and is the father of four children
and the grandfather of two.
